• This has happened before, where a new technology arrives, and slowly, quietly, it creates a loneliness pandemic where even though we are more connected than ever, it’s as if it were the complete opposite.

AI being the next big technological advancement, I keep asking myself the same question: are we going to let this one consume us too, or do we finally learn to live with it differently?

  • My experiments explore how emotion can directly shape visual form. I use data from brain waves, facial expressions, and heart rate to drive 3D animations, allowing movement and texture to respond in real time rather than being manually designed. Alongside this, I develop biomaterials that behave like a second skin, soft, stretchable membranes that react to light and movement. These are applied to the body and inform the digital forms, creating a dialogue between physical matter and 3D, where both the body and the data actively shape the final image.

  • This project is still in the making and will be published in the summer.

BIO MATERIALS

I’m drawn to biomaterials as a way to ground my digital work in something physical and alive. They behave unpredictably, stretch, shift, trap air, react to light, in ways that feel closer to the body than anything purely simulated. It’s a way of bringing a sense of tactility and sensitivity into the work, while exploring how biological and digital systems can coexist and inform each other.

Creating moulds in 3D and printing them to give shape to a biomaterial. A process of mixing 3D techniques with physical materials.

DIGITIZING EMOTIONS

In this section I explore how human signals from the physical world can be translated into the digital space. I focus on facial and micro-expressions as clear indicators of emotion, capturing them through a facial tracking system.

The data is extracted as CSV files and fed into a 3D environment, where it directly drives the animations, allowing subtle emotional shifts to shape movement and form. I’m currently collaborating with Gorm Labenz, who is helping me with the programming.
